The Alpinestars Altan Drystar motorcycle jacket combines everyday practicality with all-weather protection in a lightweight field-jacket design. Its soft-feel matte Polyfabric outer shell offers a comfortable balance of robustness and flexibility, while the integrated Drystar® membrane provides waterproofing* and breathability. Taped seams and a water-repellent outer shell add further protection against wet weather.
When temperatures change, the detachable 100g thermal vest lets you quickly adjust the jacket to the conditions. A warm collar, elasticated cuffs and multiple adjustment points help keep the fit comfortable, while waist and arm-volume adjusters allow you to fine-tune the jacket to your preference.
For storage, the Altan features practical double-entry cargo and hand pockets, keeping your everyday essentials close at hand. An internal waterproof compartment with a dedicated keyless/Telepass pocket adds another useful storage option.
Protection comes from Level 2 Nucleon Flex Pro protectors at the shoulders and elbows, while the jacket is Tech-Air® Ready and can be upgraded with compatible Alpinestars back and chest protection (sold seperately). CE certified to Class A, the Altan is a versatile waterproof motorcycle jacket for commuting and everyday riding.

Motorcycle gear comes in various levels of waterproofness, which is important for comfort and safety during wet rides. Most waterproof jackets, pants, gloves, and footwear have a membrane that prevents water from penetrating the outer layer. These products keep you dry, but there's a limit to how much they can penetrate. A waterproof membrane doesn't mean 100% waterproof. With prolonged exposure to rain or under high pressure, the outer layer can still let moisture through. This means you could get wet after longer rides in heavy rain, especially in areas where the fabric moves intensively or where seams are less well-protected.
Looking for 100% waterproof? Then choose a product with a Gore-Tex membrane. Gore-Tex is a specially designed membrane that is both waterproof and breathable. The membrane contains microscopic pores that are too small for water droplets to penetrate, but large enough to allow water vapor (sweat) to escape. This keeps rain and spray out, while your body heat and moisture are wicking away. You will ride dry and comfortable, even in prolonged or heavy rain.
In short: regular waterproof motorcycle clothing keeps out short(er) rainshowers, while Gore-Tex effectively protects against prolonged rain and at the same time provides breathable comfort.
Choose a Level 1 or Level 2 back protector. Level 2 has a higher impact value than Level 1.
