A motorcycle rain suit is the quickest way to deal with an unexpected downpour without spending the rest of your ride soaking wet. Simply pull it on over your motorcycle gear and, once the rain has passed, fold it back down into a compact package that fits in your pannier or tank bag. All rain suits in this range are specifically designed for motorcycle use: built to withstand high speeds and equipped with adjustment options to prevent flapping in the wind.
Rain suits come in two versions, and the main difference is how quickly and easily you can put them on.
One-piece (overall). One zipper and no opening around the waist. The Dainese Ultralight Rain Suit, for example, features a zipper running from the neck to the knee and oversized legs, allowing you to pull the suit on over your motorcycle boots. A one-piece rain suit is therefore quick to put on and reduces the chance of water getting in around the waist.
Two-piece (jacket + pants). You can also wear the two pieces separately, for example just the pants if you already have a waterproof motorcycle jacket. The REV'IT! Pacific 4 H2O and GMS Euria are examples of two-piece sets.
If you combine separate pieces, preferably choose them from the same brand. The jacket and pants from one set are designed to work together in terms of length, fastening and fit.
Taped seams play an important role in how long you stay dry, as seams are always one of the weakest points in rainwear. Also look for long zippers along the pant legs, allowing you to put the suit on without removing your boots, as well as an elasticated waist, adjustable ankles to prevent flapping and reflective details on the sleeves, back and legs.
Models such as the Macna Hydra 3.0 and Alpinestars Hurricane Rain V2 Suit also feature an inner lining, preventing the material from sticking to your motorcycle gear. Finally, consider the pack size: a lightweight rain suit that you always carry with you is more useful than a heavy suit that stays at home.
A motorcycle rain suit keeps out rain and wind, but doesn't provide abrasion resistance or impact protection on its own. EN 17092 classes (A, AA and AAA) and certified protectors apply to the motorcycle jacket and motorcycle trousers worn underneath. Always wear a rain suit over proper protective motorcycle gear.
If you mainly commute, a compact and affordable rain suit such as the Ixon Compact Suit or LS2 Aqua Rain Suit is usually sufficient: it packs down small and is quick to put on. For long touring rides or year-round riding, choose a more durable model with an inner lining that is better suited to repeated rain showers. If you only need to protect your legs because your jacket is already waterproof, choosing separate rain pants or a rain jacket can be a more affordable option.
The rain suits have a roomy cut and are available in sizes XS through 5XL, in black or yellow. Most models have a unisex fit based on men's sizing.
Complete your rain gear with overgloves and boot covers, and keep your luggage dry with a dry bag or rain cover.

A rain suit protects you from top to bottom in one go, while a separate rain jacket and rain pants allow you to choose which pieces you need. A one-piece suit provides continuous coverage, preventing water from getting in between the jacket and pants, for example around your lower back. Separate pieces, on the other hand, offer more flexibility.
A good rain suit will keep you dry and comfortable during heavy showers. However, no rain suit is completely and indefinitely waterproof, especially during prolonged, heavy rain. Higher-end models often feature an inner lining for extra comfort and to prevent the suit from sticking to the rest of your gear.
Because these rain suits are designed to be worn over your motorcycle gear, you can often choose your usual size. The suit should be roomy enough to pull on easily while still providing plenty of freedom of movement. Ideally, try it on over your motorcycle gear to make sure it fits properly.
If you regularly ride for longer periods in the rain, a complete rain suit is a practical choice because it provides full coverage in one go. If you mainly want an emergency option for an unexpected summer shower, a separate rain jacket and rain pants will usually be sufficient. The best option therefore depends on how often you ride in the rain.
