Description

The Alpinestars SMX Waterproof motorcycle jacket is made with a main chassis constructed with 600D polyfabric and stretch softshell for the optimal blend of durability, light weight and comfort. This jacket features subtly incorporated class-leading Level 1 Nucleon Flex Plus armour for proven impact protection.

The SMX WP jacket is equipped with a DWR (Durable Water Repellent) treatment on its fixed waterproof* membrane, and has a detachable thermal liner, allowing it to be adapted to the weather conditions for real world versatility. It is also fully optimized for use with or without Tech-Air® 5, Alpinestars world leading electronic airbag safety system.

How waterproof is this item?

Motorcycle gear comes in various levels of waterproofness, which is important for comfort and safety during wet rides. Most waterproof jackets, pants, gloves, and footwear have a membrane that prevents water from penetrating the outer layer. These products keep you dry, but there's a limit to how much they can penetrate. A waterproof membrane doesn't mean 100% waterproof. With prolonged exposure to rain or under high pressure, the outer layer can still let moisture through. This means you could get wet after longer rides in heavy rain, especially in areas where the fabric moves intensively or where seams are less well-protected.

Looking for 100% waterproof? Then choose a product with a Gore-Tex membrane. Gore-Tex is a specially designed membrane that is both waterproof and breathable. The membrane contains microscopic pores that are too small for water droplets to penetrate, but large enough to allow water vapor (sweat) to escape. This keeps rain and spray out, while your body heat and moisture are wicking away. You will ride dry and comfortable, even in prolonged or heavy rain.

In short: regular waterproof motorcycle clothing keeps out short(er) rainshowers, while Gore-Tex effectively protects against prolonged rain and at the same time provides breathable comfort.
